【Bangkok Chinatown Yaowarat Must-Try】Lek & Rut Seafood – Iconic Street-Side Seafood with Grilled Crab, Prawns & Spicy Clams

When it comes to Bangkok’s Chinatown (Yaowarat), one of the most famous spots for fresh seafood is Lek & Rut Seafood. This long-standing local restaurant has been serving fresh seafood for decades and remains a go-to destination for both locals and tourists.

Located right at the corner of Yaowarat Road and Soi Phadung Dao (also known as Soi Texas), the restaurant comes alive after sunset. Plastic tables line the sidewalks, the scent of grilling seafood fills the air, and the lively street scene captures the true essence of Bangkok’s night life.

We came here for dinner and ordered several of their signature dishes — here’s what we tried!

🍤 Recommended Dishes

🐚 Spicy Stir-Fried Clams (195 THB)

This dish is bursting with flavor — fresh clams stir-fried with Thai chili paste and sweet basil. Fragrant, spicy, and slightly sweet, it’s absolutely perfect with a plate of rice. A must-order!

🩸 Blood Cockles (200 THB)

A true Thai favorite — these cockles are slightly rare in the center and best enjoyed with spicy seafood sauce. The contrast of sweetness and heat is irresistible. If you prefer them fully cooked, just ask the staff to grill them longer.

🦀 Grilled Crab (1,000 THB per kg)

Freshly grilled crabs are served hot, with crispy shells and sweet, juicy meat. Dip it into the Thai seafood sauce — a perfect balance of spicy, sour, and salty. It’s not cheap, but the freshness and generous portion definitely make it worth it!

🦐 Grilled Prawns (300–1,000 THB per kg)

You can choose from regular sea prawns to giant river prawns, all grilled to perfection. The shells are lightly charred, and the meat is firm and flavorful. The highlight? The creamy orange prawn head fat — rich, smoky, and utterly delicious!

🦞 Braised Shark Fin Soup with Crab Meat (Large 500 THB)

A Chinese-style soup that’s popular among local and Chinese diners. The broth is thick and rich, packed with shredded crab meat and shark fin. Add a dash of vinegar or pepper for extra depth. Warm, hearty, and full of seafood umami.

🍽 Dining Experience

The biggest charm of Lek & Rut Seafood is its authentic street-side dining atmosphere. You’ll be sitting right on Yaowarat Road, surrounded by traffic, chatter, and sizzling grills — it’s chaotic, lively, and totally Bangkok!

Service is quick despite the crowd, and the food comes out fresh and hot from the wok or grill.

💡 Tips

  • Visit around 5:30 PM when the restaurant starts to get busy but before the big crowd arrives.

  • There’s also an indoor, air-conditioned section next door if you want to escape the heat.

  • Prices vary by seafood type and market rate — ask before ordering.

  • The seafood dipping sauce is very spicy — you can ask for “not too spicy” if needed.
